Volunteers from St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, St. Andrew
United Methodist Church, Parker United Methodist Church, Highlands
Ranch and greater Denver volunteered more than 2,000 hours for the
“Feeding of the 5,000.” About 40,000 pounds of food was raised for
Denver Urban Ministries, enough non-perishable food to feed
Denver’s hungry for more than five weeks.

Highlands Ranch High School’s junior varsity poms teamed up with
Eagle Scout Candidate Aaron Tafoya of Troop 303, Centennial
District, to help a battered women’s shelter. The team gave a hand
in helping with Tafoya’s Eagle Scout project by making 25 blankets
for a battered women’s shelter in Colorado.

Using materials Tafoya acquired through donation, the team
brought him closer to his goal of providing 100 blankets for women
and their children who live in shelters for battered women. Each
candidate for Eagle Scout must complete a significant community
service project. The project is presented to a board of review
prior to and at completion of the project in order for the Scout to
achieve the coveted rank of Eagle Scout.

Highlands Ranch High School JV Poms Team members include Carolyn
Buckley, Samantha Davies, Courtney Fromm, Karli Hansen, Simone La
Barrie and Rachel Popo. Megan Green is the team’s coach.
