After reading Mr. Gene Sperry’s response to Michael Daniels
article that appeared in the Gazette (Election what you don’t know
can hurt
you) I am also amazed that Mr. Sperry would make such statements
to Mr. Daniels article as “Inaccuracies, exaggerations, ridiculous,
and outrageous” without any factual reply to the issues that have
been raised.
I have lived in Teller County for almost 30 years and I am
concerned with the fact that Mr. Sperry did not answer the
questions posed by the articles that were in the newspapers. I too
have questions as to why was $300,000 spent in support of a coal
company, and why was another $100,000 sent to some company to
support their effort to deny climate change when 99.5 percent of
the world’s scientists agree that climate change is taking place.
These questions are relevant to the conduct of this board, and
should be addressed to the members of the association.
I also want to know why IREA is not supporting tax credits for
passive solar installations when almost all electric companies in
Colorado are, and why were they against refunding retail cost to
members that have installed solar panels, and attempted to only
refund wholesale cost to its members.
If Mr. Sperry and other board members cannot answer these
questions with any reasonable certainty, I think there should be
some changes in the make up of the board of IREA, considering that
the whole nation is moving toward a green society which includes
Teller County. This board should represent the make up of the
people they serve. This is not a Republican or Democratic issue, it
is a people issue that affect us all who live in the area that is
served by IREA.
