Coach: Keith Wahl

High school: Valor Christian

Sport: baseball

What sports did you play when you were younger?

I played baseball and basketball.

What got you started in a coaching career?

Probably like many coaches, when my playing days came to an end
after college, I wanted to continue in the game somehow.

What was your most rewarding moment(s) as a coach?

The feeling of family that emerges from great teams.

What was your most deflating moment(s)?

The destruction of that family feeling.

What is most important about having sports a part of the high
school experience?

My coaches. I still maintain relationships with the best of
them.

What do you feel is the biggest struggle for high school sports
presently?

Short-sightedness. In baseball especially, success is measured
over a long period of time. See the MLB’s 162-game season.

If you could coach one professional sports team, which would it
be, and what changes would you make?

Ugh. My poor Denver Broncos. How did we go from one of the best
teams in the NFL to here? This could be John Elway’s greatest
comeback.

If the team you’re coaching presently were to win the state
championship, what would you say would be the No. 1 reason for
it?

Family. This team has bonded in a powerful way through our
preseason retreat.

What do you do for fun that isn’t related to the sport you
presently coach?

I picked up curling this winter, and it is awesome!

Walt Disney pictures decides to make a motion picture about your
team and its achievements. What celebrity actor/actress would play
you in the movie?

Tom Hanks. Someone told me I looked like Forrest Gump while I
was in college, but I’m not positive it was a compliment. Someone
also saw a resemblance between me and Adam Sandler some time ago.
Serious film: Hanks. Comedy: Sandler.
