It’s time to start using your green thumb, city officials say.

Brighton officials have a few different species of trees for residents to purchase. The city’s tree program encourages tree planting, species diversity and water conservation.

City officials chose species of trees based on Brighton’s water demand and soil conditions. Each tree costs $59.68, and the selection includes species such as Glenleven Linden, Bur Oak, Chanticleer Pear, Eastern Redbud, Hackberry, Hot Wings Maple and Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry. Each household is limited to three trees.

Although residents can order the trees now, they won’t be available for pick-up until mid-April. Participants of the program are responsible for all tree maintenance, pruning and watering. Master gardeners will be available to answer questions during tree pickup.

All trees purchased through the Brighton tree program must be planted within city limits on public right-of-way or on private property. Trees won’t be reserved until full payment is received. The payment is non-refundable and there is no warranty is available.

To place an order, residents need to fill out and return an application form with a check made out to the City of Brighton. Applications can be found online at www.brightonco.gov/treeprogram. For questions and availability call 303-655-2054.
