After a banner year for A-West, which saw both the boys and girls cross-country teams earn league titles, the runners headed south to test their legs against the best in the state.

Max Sevcik led the charge for the Arvada West runners at last week’s cross-country state finals. He finished the 500-meter course in 16:71 for a 17th place finish. Fellow Wildcat competitors included Josh Campbell, Justin Andraid, Colin Berndt, Andres Perez, Marshall Haymond, and Ryan Lee.

The top five Wildcat runners all finished in the top 50, good enough to earn the team a 5th place distinction.

For the girls race, Civianna Gallegos ran the course in 20:18 as the fastest of the team. Gallegos finished in 51st place. Also cracking the top 100 in the state were Katie Doucette and Claire Pauley
