1) “Lead by Example”
2) Having served in the State Legislature for eight years I know how the system works. No one can do things by themselves, so building coalitions is very important. I have the experience and connections to build coalitions. Currently I represent the City in the most important committees: Denver Regional Council of Governments, Metro Vision Issue Committee, DRCOG Administrative Committee,– all dealing with transportation; North Area Transportation Alliance—dealing with transportation; Colorado Municipal League—dealing with legislation; and Airport Coordinating Committee—dealing with Economic Development.
3) ENGAGING the City with businesses and citizens in Thornton to bring primary jobs into the City.
ENCOURAGING PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS to develop more commercial activity, particularly along North Washington,
BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS between the City and our schools to maximize the return on our tax money.
4) We have already approved “Substation Plans” for 88th, 104th, and 124th, now we need to make sure that we zone the areas to fit the plans. That is the only way you can control what the developers build. The plans call for higher density then
what we have been used to but they fall in line with “Urban Centers” as defined by DRCOG.
5) Municipalities have unwritten growth boundaries, currently Thornton can grow up to highway 7 with a few spots that go beyond highway 7 on the north and Yosemite on the east.
