Bertha E. Thomas, 65, of Brighton, died peacefully after a long illness July 13, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born June 30, 1948, to Bill and Sylvia Owen, of Proctor. Soon after graduating from Iliff High School, she moved to California, coming back to Colorado in 1998 to be closer to her family.
Bertha’s favorite holiday was Christmas, decorating the tree with her many ornaments including one from each State she had visited, decorating the bannister and hanging her Christmas stocking to see what funny stuff she was getting that year. She loved to travel and her wish was to go to Alaska, which was prevented due to health reasons.
She was a very kind and loving person, enjoying family times, playing cards, bowling and going to the mountains. She was an avid Bronco fan and never missed a game whether they were winning or losing. Champ was her favorite player.
She is survived by her sons, Bradley (Jodie) Wickham, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Walter Wickham, Jr., of Kingsburg, Calif.; daughter, Joni Nunez, of Hanford, Calif.; brothers, Harlan (Peggy) Owen and Jim (Glenys) Owen, both of Sterling, Glenn (Mona) Owen, of Montpelier, Idaho; sister, Norma Lanning, of Brighton; sister-in-law, Kathy Owen, of Castle Rock, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bertha’s honor to Tru Community Care, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, Colorado 80026 or to the charity of your choice.
Funeral service was July 17, 2013, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton, which handled the arrangements.
