Judith Viorst’s perennially popular tale about poor Alexander, who wakes up with gum in his hair and things go downhill from there, will be brought to life for area kids by the new South Metro Children’s Theatre, a collaboration between Lone Tree Arts Center, PACE Center and Starkey Productions.

The cast of “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” includes Rachel Graham as Alexander, Julia Perotta, Sarah Grover, Joanie Beyette, Seth Caikowski, Brett Ambler and Noah Lee Jordan.

They will be joined by live musicians in 10 a.m. and noon weekday performances for area schools and home school groups, and public performances on Saturdays at both centers.

Two joint professional productions for kids will be presented each year through this collaboration.

Also, attendees to both venues will receive a free child’s ticket to The Wildlife Experience.

As Alexander’s day continues with no toy in his cereal, being accused of singing too loud, no dessert in his lunch, lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV, he gets testy with others — and nobody listens when he whines. Who hasn’t been there?

Kids will certainly relate to the idea that this happens to others and will empathize with the little boy’s problems. Conversation on the way home should be fun.
