Editor:
I’m very concerned about the lack of civility and honesty in this year’s presidential election. Instead of healthy, robust debate about the issues of our day, American citizens get a daily diet of childish name-calling, manipulation and deceit. While it appears that dirty campaigns win, I believe character, civility, and honesty still matter, and I think all media have an important role in ending this political circus: with your pen, hold candidates more accountable and pursue the promotion of cultural and political civility above a particular political leaning.
Although drama sells, our society needs healthy, balanced news sources that demand civility and character from our aspiring leaders.
Mitt Romney and Barack Obama both care deeply about what the media writes. News organizations must stop feeding the beast of this campaign soap opera and with their publication demand honest and civil behavior from the men who aspire to lead our nation.
