In regards to Gene Sears’ July 23 article (Cow Town: Mega dairy eyed for south Weld County), I just want to inform you of the location planned for the animal waste and manure. Adjoining the east edge of the planned dairy are four occupied residences. The compost piles and a holding pond will be within 300 to 400 feet behind the houses. This planned dairy will have a very negative impact on 16 residents within 1.5 miles of the dairy, especially on the ones within 500 feet of the manure piles and holding ponds.
As one of two of the families adjoining the planned dairy we have lived here for 42 years, others over 20 years. Check out the plans at www.weldcountyplanningcases.org, click on planning and zoning, click on current planning cases and on Aug. 21, Case #USR12-0034.
Anyone want to join us in 18 months for an outdoor barbeque accompanied by millions of flies and the aroma of rotting manure which would still be present even if it is only 3000 to 5000 animals instead of 8000? Plans can look great on paper, especially pest, dust and odor control, but reality is different picture especially for the affected families.
