It’s time to turn in the ballot you received in the mail recently. Now, if you didn’t get one and you are registered to vote, then you need to call Adams County election headquarters at 720-523-6500. It’s almost too late to mail your ballot back to the election office, but you can deliver it to your city clerk’s office right up until 7 p.m. on election night or any service center.
Remember, this election qualifies for non-partisan voting. You don’t have to be a Democrat or Republican and you need not state or vote for only political party candidates. Although some political parties get involved behind the scenes, they have no business doing so and should be called out. When Richard Pabon announced his candidacy for District 50 School Board at a Democratic political meeting it certainly was noted, especially when some office holders warmly endorsed him.
While I’m on my soapbox, I’ll also state my distaste for mail-in voting. Remember the “olden” days when we got the kids up early, dressed them up and moms and dads took them in to the voting booth to show them how democracy works? It became an early voting contest to see who could be first in line.
It just seemed so patriotic to be at our local Grange Hall and vote in such a perfect “town hall” setting. And it was the place to catch up on the news with the neighbors. It was also followed by buying goodies at the homeowner bake sale for breakfast afterwards.
Voting was important; we studied that ballot in advance and knew what we were doing. I’ll never forget Grace Jacobson, who made sure she had voted for me in a city election before she passed on. What a tribute to know she deemed it that important.
So!
So if you too deem this election important, then read up on those who aspire to run our cities and schools and vote. If you’re not registered and you don’t care, then stay home, quit complaining and suffer the consequences. And shame on you!!
It makes me angry to know folks who take all that good government stands for, but don’t care enough to do the right thing by registering to vote and then do so.
There, I said it and I’m going to feel better if just one more person registers to vote and casts an informed vote at the next election, which will be the all-important presidential one.

Stay well, stay involved and stay tuned.
P.S. Several of you wanted to know who I’m voting for on the District 50 School Board. My vote goes to Valente, Landgraf and Pacheco.
