I woulda had it right and I coulda had it right and I shoulda had it right if I only had called Norma Anderson, Republican retired state senator and election guru from Lakewood in the first place.

But, it was late, I was tired and my column deadline was at hand. So I relied on secondhand information and told you that there is no state statute mandating non-partisan school board elections. Norma set me straight saying, “Yes, there is such a statute,” and she’s angry that some Jefferson County Republicans are violating it by getting involved in a Republican Party way. Shame on them.

And I’m still upset that some Democrat elected officials are sticking their nose into what is supposed to be a non-partisan Adams County School District 50 board election. The city council elections are also to be non-partisan but I think they are governed by home rule election code status. I’ll keep trying to figure out how they operate.

Dirty politics is about to happen

Meantime, those ugly, anonymous 527-C ads that appear and have no disclaimer are supposedly about to be foisted on District 50 voters. A well-known political consultant was approached by the Colorado Education Association and our own local Westminster Education Association (WEA) to do some of those despicable fliers and ads. He refused because he is friends with some candidates the ads were aimed at.

And that’s how it was found out that such shenanigans are about to be unveiled.

So, folks, when you see or hear about them call Melissa Duran of our own teacher organization and tell her you want them stopped immediately. Her number is 303-427-1734.

It’s one thing to win fair and square but not with anonymous trash ads.

If those folks can’t win it with truthful, fair information, we sure don’t want them on our school board, do we?
