A man accidentally shot through the wall of his duplex while trying to clean his handgun.

The bullet traveled through the wall into the next-door apartment, shattering a neighbor’s lamp.

The man told police he had been trying to clean the gun with the magazine still inside.

He believed there were no bullets in the gun at the time and was surprised when the gun fired.

Homeowner, contractor suspicious of stolen

tool incident

12:10 p.m. Friday, June 24, 8400 block of W. 74th Place

A man reported a box of tools missing after doing some construction work on a woman’s house.

The man said he left his tools at the house after completing a job.

The woman said she would leave the tools on the porch for him to pick up, but the man said the tools were gone when he arrived.

The woman said she left out the tools and assumed the man had retrieved them.

She told police she felt suspicious of the man because he asked her several times for a small business loan.

She refused to loan him money. When it came time for her to pay the man for his work, she wrote a check to the man’s business.

She said he became angry that she had not written him a personal check instead.

She believes the man was lying about the stolen tools because he wanted to get back at her for not giving him the money directly.
