Registration is open for this year’s summer reading program at
the Elbert County Library District, regardless of age.
Children’s program
One World, Many Stories will lead children from birth up through
fifth grade to fun reading, activities and prizes like removable
tattoos, zipper pulls and books.
This year’s special performers include Birgitta De Pree in her
“Museum of Dreams” and Beth Epley performing “Color the Earth:
stories from many lands.” In addition there will be fun throughout
June and July. To complete this year’s program, read or be read to
for eight hours between June 1 and July 30.
Teen program
Teens will want to participate in the Amazing Read that will
have them globetrotting through reading and activities. Each teen
will be challenged to read eight books or complete eight
activities. Teens earn a flying disc halfway through the race and
choose a free book upon completion of their worldwide race.
The libraries will be offering two activities for teens: an
online scavenger hunt and a map origami session. Advance
registration is required.
Adult program
Adults can set sail for Novel Destinations, read four books or
participate in four library events between June 1 and July 30 to
complete the passport to reading fun. Explore the world without
leaving the chair. Adults receive a global pen as their prize for
completing their logs.
Grand-prize drawings
Each library will have special grand-prize drawings for children
and teens. All youth who complete and return their reading logs
will be entered into a drawing for a complimentary Elitch Gardens
ticket. In addition, every youth that attends a summer reading
program will be able to be entered into the grand-prize drawing for
a stuffed cheetah.
