Softball swept in regionals
After a tough opening loss to Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA Central I Region opener, the Colorado School of Mines softball team saw its season come to a close with a 6-0 defeat to Augustana on Saturday in Rapid City, SD. The Orediggers (36-24 record) fell to Duluth 3-1 on Friday despite holding the early lead. Kelly Unkrich took the loss, with Brinley Benson and Sarah Van Lingen each getting two hits. Augustana, which went on to win the regional after defeating Duluth twice, chased Unkrich Saturday after only two innings. Van Lingen and Macy Jones each had two hits.
Golf qualifiers
Before the weather turned for the worse last week the Class 4A Metro-West girls golf regional was completed at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood. Wheat Ridge High School qualified seniors Katie Moats and Claire Casey to the 4A state tournament to be held Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24, at Elmwood Golf Course in Pueblo. Arvada sophomore Samantha Salazar, Golden senior Shannon Seery and Green Mountain freshman Nicole Rooney will also represent Jeffco at the 36-hole state tournament next week.
Venue moved
The Colorado High School Activities Association announced last week that the Class 5A girls golf state tournament will be moved to Lone Tree Golf Course in Highlands Ranch on Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24. The original site — Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs — suffered significant winterkill on its green. The 5A Metro-West regional tournament had to be moved from last Thursday to Tuesday this week because Indian Tree Golf Course in Arvada was unplayable last Thursday because of wet conditions. The regional was played Tuesday, after press deadline, at Westmoor Golf Course in Westminster.

The top seed will begin the eight-team double-elimination tournament at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, at Jackson Field on the University of Northern Colorado campus in Greeley against Olathe (13-8).
