It’s tough to tell where the Jaguars go from here.

But they are excited to find out.

With its first four games of the new season in the books, Rock Canyon High School boys lacrosse is 2-2 with wins over Monarch and Columbine to open the season and followed with losses to Cheyenne Mountain and Regis Jesuit at home during Spring Break.

Canyon’s varsity roster shows promise.

“We have quite a few returners on the team,” Jags coach Louis Goldin said. “Excited to see where we can go.”

Last season, Canyon finished with a winning record of 10-6 and finished fourth in its conference. The Jaguars made the state championship playoffs but were eliminated in the first round.

Goldin, in his second year as coach of the Jags, has seven returning starters this season including goalie Chad Hayward, defensemen Connor Ervin and Christian Storch, midfielders Parker Jackson and Brian Corliss and attackers Wilkins Dismuke and Trey Buckland.

Jackson was a first-team all-conference and second-team all-state selection last season. Ervin, Corliss and Dismuke each earned second-team all-conference nods, while Storch was an all-conference honorable mention last year.

On defense, Drew Stormo is also expected to contributed heavily this season, Goldin said.

Two-time league champions Mountain Vista, Highlands Ranch and returning senior-heavy Chaparral are supposed to be the conference heavyweights this season, the coach said.

Against Monarch, the Jaguars went up 8-5 at halftime, which helped them hold on for a 1-point victory.

In the Columbine game, Dismuke and Buckland each finished with six goals for the Jags. Dismuke also had two assists. Andrew Wilson had two goals, and Connor Strickland scored one and assisted two.

Goalie Clayton Howard had 11 saves to help down the Rebels 13-8.

Buckland had two goals against Regis March 22 at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch. Dismuke had one and an assist. Regis won 16-3.
