The “Cuts from where?” sidebar that accompanied the RE-1 mill
levy override story on the front page March 9 was misleading. The
sidebar stated that the district is potentially facing $550,000 in
cuts due to reduced state funding. Where this is correct, the
following sentence listed where those cuts would take place.
Instead of stating “This includes…” and listing those cuts it
should have read “Prior cuts have included…”
No decisions on where future cuts will come from within the
district have been made at this time. The cuts listed were not
proposed cuts nor already-decided upon cuts, but instead cuts that
have been made over the previous two years as the district was
forced to cut nearly $800,000 from its budget in that span of time.
The writer regrets this error.
