Bus transit a better solution
to I-70 congestion
Editor:
Make no mistake about it, the key to the entire Interstate70 mountain corridor is how the eastbound congestion at the Twin Tunnels is addressed.
If CDOT spends $55 million on a “highway” solution to alleviate congestion in that area, as has been recently suggested by a panel of experts, then that will be the approach for the remainder of the corridor.
Obviously, that would include a devastating road-widening project through the heart of Clear Creek County and Idaho Springs. Isn’t that what we’ve all been trying to avoid? On the other hand, if a bus transit element is introduced instead, much like I’ve been suggesting, then that will be the approach adopted for the remainder of the corridor.
Since an elevated guideway for buses could be constructed in a manner that’s sensitive to the concerns of Clear Creek County and Idaho Springs residents, isn’t that a more preferable option? Since the rights-of-way and infrastructure of a bus guideway could eventually be converted into a more substantial rail operation at some point in the future, why are the Kevin O’Malleys and Harry Dales of the world so opposed to the idea? Somebody should ask them.

Parents’ Night Out

Editor:
Our third annual Parents’ Night Out fund-raiser turned out to be more of a success than we originally estimated with over $1,900 raised for the students at Carlson Elementary. We owe our gratitude to the businesses in Idaho Springs, the rec center, Buffalo Restaurant and the amazing teachers and staff at Carlson.
The level of participation from local businesses and teachers was at an all-time high. These individuals truly care for their community and make small-town living special.
