One of the most important criteria for a school for parents is a
safe and positive learning environment for their children.

At CC-V Jr./Sr. High School, we are continuously working on
building welcoming, positive, safe and academic focused culture.
This school year, we have introduced the school-wide positive
behavior support system “Pioneer Pride.” We have held Safe-to-Tell
and the Rachel’s Challenge assemblies. We have started a Friends of
Rachel’s club. We also had a junior high school symposium.

Throughout the year we have informed the community about these
activities. However, a quick review for students, parents and
students may be helpful.

We implemented school-wide positive behavior intervention and
supports. This system is a proactive approach to creating a
positive and productive learning environment by teaching what is
expected and acknowledging the positive action of our students. We
have also implemented a consistent school-wide discipline
procedure, which guides students to positive and productive
behavior. The Step-Up program coaches students who need additional
instruction on productive and positive behavior.

We acknowledge students each week for their positive actions
through “Student(s) of the Week” awards. Each quarter, we
acknowledge every student who has good attendance, behavior and
academics through our “Red, White and Blue Pioneer Pride
awards.”

During second quarter, we held the junior high and high school
Safe2Tell assembly. We invited the sixth-grade class to join us for
the junior assembly. The students were provided with information
about this important program. Safe2Tell gives students an anonymous
place to report any threatening behaviors or activities which
endangers themselves or others. Students’ anonymity is protected by
law C.R.S. 07-197. If a student has concerns about harmful
activities at school or in the community with family or friends,
he/she contacts Safe2Tell and an investigation will take place by
the appropriate authorities. The Safe2Tell number is
1-877-542-7233. Students may also report at the Safe2Tell website,
safe2tell.org.

In January we had Rachel’s Challenge assemblies for students and
the community. The Rachel Scott story inspired our students to
commit to making a positive difference in their lives. Rachel was
the first person killed at Columbine High School in April 1999.
However Rachel is more famously known for her acts of kindness and
compassion. These acts have left a legacy and challenge for our
students to become more positive and caring and to reach for their
dreams. Since the assembly, students have been leading the charge
in our Friends of Rachel clubs. FOR club members are given time to
meet every Monday at lunch. They are working on both small and big
acts of kindness.

As we continue to build a positive, safe and productive learning
environment we welcome your input. Please feel free to contact us
with any questions, concerns or ideas.
