New No. 1 L-P (18-3, 12-1 4A
Metro) won’t be holding onto the top spot for long as it fell in
overtime to its nemesis Sierra (13-7, 9-3) by a single point,
52-51.
The Rangers were in control most
of the game and had a 40-33 advantage heading into the final
quarter, but could not contain the Stallions, who went on a 15-8
run to tie the game at the end of regulation.
Only seven points would be scored
in overtime with Sierra scoring four and L-P only three.
Josh Scott had a game-high 26
points while his brother Jordan added 13 in the losing
effort.
LPHS Girls
Basketball
The Ranger girls (5-16, 2-11 4A
Metro) suffered yet another close loss, this time to Sierra (8-11,
5-6), 42-37.
After the opening quarter that saw
L-P up 10-8, the girls would give up the lead and go into the break
down 22-18 but could never find the lead again despite keeping it
extremely close the rest of the way.
Sara Slabberkorn and Kai Brown
each tallied nine points for L-P
LPHS Boys
Hockey
The No. 2 Rangers (17-1) not only
thrashed Palmer (7-9-2) 9-2, but claimed the Peak League
championship as well with the win.
L-P scored three times in the
first period compared to only one for Palmer. The Rangers would
then find the back of the net twice more in the second and third
periods to run away with the win.
Seven different Rangers scored
goals while Travis Fisk led the way point-wise with three,
contributing a goal and two assists.
PRHS vs. DCC Boys
Basketball
Palmer Ridge (13-7, 8-4 4A Metro)
let a first half lead slip away but recovered to grab a 50-42 win
over Discovery Canyon (7-14, 5-8), coming back from a loss the
previous night.
The Bears had a nice opening
quarter and found themselves up 11-6 following the first and 29-23
going into the locker room. DCC would fight back with a 13-3 third,
stealing the lead away and headed into the final quarter with a
36-32 advantage.
However, the Bears would outscore
the Thunder 18-6 down the stretch to come back and seize the win
away from DCC.
Forrest Dyer led all scorers with
21 points and Eric Marty had 10 to aid in the win.
Jon Parker netted 20 points to
pace DCC.
PRHS vs. DCC Girls
Basketball
The PRHS girls (12-7, 6-5 4A
Metro) completed the sweep of the Thunder (7-13, 4-8), bouncing DCC
in its own gym by a final score of 49-39.
Palmer Ridge took control of the
game from the first tip. It would dominate the first two quarters
and took a 22-12 advantage into halftime.
Despite DCC playing much better in
the second half, with the teams scoring 27 points apiece, the
deficit was too much to overcome.
Jordan Bryant led Palmer Ridge
with 15 points.
No individual stats were available
for DCC.
PCHS Hockey
Pine Creek’s (2-14) losing streak
reached 10 as it was defeated by Monarch (11-8) 8-7.
A single first period goal made
the difference as Monarch scored four times in the opening frame
while the Eagles tallied three.
Monarch would increase its lead to
7-4 in the second period, seeming to put the game away.
The Eagles stormed back with three
goals of their own in the final period, but a single Monarch goal,
9:26 into the third, gave it the win.
Alexander Hoskins had a four-point
performance for Pine Creek with two goals and two assists. McKay
Inman also scored twice.
