The Castle Rock Police Department Victims Assistance Unit needs
volunteers to help victims of crime as well as other traumatic
events, such as the death of a loved one or losing a home to
fire.

Since this work requires a special type of person who values
confidentiality and understanding, potential volunteers go through
an intensive interview process and background check. Afterward,
they begin the 40 hours of training required for certification.
Though they eventually work independently, the group is a team
lending strong support for each other under myriad of
circumstances. The team covers shifts so one member is on-call and
available to the community 24 hours each day. Training will begin
Sept. 10.

From now until Sept. 30, the Town of Castle Rock is offering
free building permits for many residential projects.

The types of improvements that qualify for the program include
basic interior remodel, basement remodel, roof repair or
replacement, wall insulation, replacement of water heaters, change
to central heating and air, photo voltaic systems (solar panels),
stucco or siding home exteriors, and decks.

Town staff will review and approve permit applications within
one business day of submission. Permits will be given at no charge
on a first-come first-serve basis until the town reaches a cap of
$100,000 in free permits.

The program could end before Sept. 30 if the $100,000 cap is
reached prior to that date.

Building permits must be applied for during the program’s dates.
There are no exceptions. Building permits are valid for 180 days,
but applicants could receive a free extension of up to 180 days,
extension time to be decided on a case-by-case basis by the town’s
chief building official.
