While students were on spring break, sheriff’s deputies and
underage volunteers were out seeing who let the young party with
alcohol.
The answer is 11 business, from the Spur of the Moment in
Larkspur to Goro Sushi to King Soopers, both in Highlands Ranch,
out of 75 businesses checked served the underage volunteers.
Typically, the special investigations unit will use volunteers
from the Explorers post associated with the sheriff’s office.
The volunteer will go into the business and try to buy alcohol,
either by the drink or at a register. The volunteer uses his or her
own identification, which clearly shows the bearer is under 21, and
cannot lie if the server or clerk asks.
Businesses that will have to appear before the County
Commissioners for a hearing are: Chipotle, 2209 W. Wildcat Reserve
Pkwy.; King Soopers, 4000 Red Cedar Drive; Ruby Tuesday, 35
Springer Dr.; Goro Sushi, 2680 E. County Line Rd.; Rubio’s, 3620
Highlands Ranch Pkwy.; Four Seasons, 9559 S University Blvd.;
Outback, 15 Springer Drive; Westside Liquor, 2209 W. Wildcat
Reserve Parkway — all in Highlands Ranch, and The Rail, 11800
Oswego St. and 7-11 at 11802 Oswego St. in Lone Tree.
Spur of the Moment, 8885 Spruce Mountain Road in Larkspur was
also cited.
First offenses can bring a three-day liquor license
suspension.
