Douglas County Sheriff Dave Weaver presents a plaque to Kaitlin Shock’s fifth-grade class Jan. 27 at Coyote Creek Elementary School in Highlands Ranch for helping name the department’s bomb robot. B.R.A.D., or bomb retrieval and disposal, won out against other entries including Alvin, Wally, Silver Bullet and Mr. Doctor Roboto. The class was visited by B.R.A.D. and other members of the sheriff’s department and celebrated with a pizza party. Weaver told class members he hoped they always remembered the lasting contribution they made to the department. The bomb robot was purchased five years ago and was made possible by a Homeland Security grant. It is called out on average of 30 times a year. Photo by Courtney Kuhlen | ckuhlen@ccnewspapers.com
