Hopefully presents under the tree are keepers, but if returns are in order, a new pedestrian bridge at Park Meadows mall can help shoppers after the holidays.

A ribbon cutting celebration opened the Regional Transportation District County Line Station-Park Meadows Pedestrian Bridge Extension Dec. 17.

Neill Quinlan, board member for RTD, said he started working on the project when he was sworn in eight years ago.

“When you start out, you have to have a goal,” Quinlan said. “You have to see how transit affects economic development.”

Quinlan said this new bridge will expand the ability to recruit employees to Park Meadows because public transportation is accessible.

Pamela Schenck, Park Meadows senior general manager, hopes the light rail pedestrian bridge will encourage the community to visit to the mall and surrounding restaurants for recreation and entertainment.

The bridge was custom designed with an enclosed staircase and two elevator towers to provide vertical circulation and on-site security cameras.
