For the second straight year the Air Force Falcons have accepted
a bid to play in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Falcons (8-4) will take on the Houston Cougars (7-5) from
Conference-USA Dec. 31 at 10:30 a.m. MST.
The two schools met for the first time ever earlier this season,
with the Falcons winning a nail-biter 31-28 on Sept. 13 in Dallas.
The game had originally been scheduled to be played in Houston, but
was moved due to Hurricane Ike.
According to Air Force athletic director Troy Ganrhart it is the
first time the Falcons have had a rematch from the regular season
in a bowl game.
“It’s a great city and an extremely classy bowl,” said head
coach Troy Calhoun. “We’re just delighted to have the opportunity
to go back.
“We’re going to be playing a very talented team and one that can
rev up in a hurry… they are a very different team from when we
played them and we probably are too.”
Since starting off 1-3, Houston has won six of their final eight
games, including wins against two ranked opponents. The Cougars
have also scored more than 40 points in seven of those, including
putting up 70 in a 40-point victory over then No. 23 Tulsa.
Ticket and travel packages for the game can be found at www.goairforcefalcons.com.
For those who cannot make the trip, the game will be televised live
on ESPN.
