The town of Green Mountain Falls celebrated the new 1-mile
pedestrian pathway on Ute Pass Avenue with a ribbon-cutting
ceremony Oct. 7. The pathway is the result of the town’s membership
in the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.

A $304,000 project, the pathway was designed by the El Paso
County Transportation Department and the work contracted out to
Rocky Mountain Materials and Asphalt. Alissa Were, a civil engineer
with the department, was the project’s lead designer. The company
used state-of-the-art road building equipment, pulverized the old
road to an average depth of 12 inches, compacted a new road base
and placed 3 inches of high-altitude asphalt to seal the base. The
town’s public works director, Rob McArthur, supervised the
project.
