Keep Woodland Park Beautiful was recently awarded a $1,500 grant
from Keep America Beautiful to implement a Cigarette Litter
Prevention Program. The grant has enabled Keep Woodland Park
Beautiful to purchase cigarette ash receptacles. The Committee has
chosen high quality, powder-coated steel cigarette litter
receptacles to place around the community. Look for these nine new
all-steel receptacles at area businesses and public locales in the
coming weeks. Participating businesses include: Banana Belt
Liquors, Buck’s, Diamond Shamrock, Loaf n’ Jug, Papa Murphy’s, and
the Ute Inn. Founded by area residents in 2004, Keep Woodland Park
Beautiful is committed to reducing litter and beautifying our
community. If you would like to volunteer, call Amanda Brush at
719-687-5209 or visit us online at www.KeepWoodlandParkBeautiful.org.
Artists’ fascination with the West mirrored the nation’s
determination to settle from coast to coast. As both a place and
ideal for early explorers, trappers, settlers and miners, artists
were quick to discover and visually record new and exciting
subjects in these vast lands. The Western Museum of Mining and
Industry celebrates the museum’s founding family with an exhibition
of never-shown artwork from Katherine and Frederick Farrar’s
private collection. The exhibit will feature the works of renowned
Western artists Harvey Otis Young, Charles Partridge Adams and
Joseph Henry Sharp. The exhibit will run through December.
Through a matching grant from the Rotary Foundation, Pikes Peak
Rotary Club members will provide health and dental screenings to
elementary and middle school students in the Woodland Park and
Cripple Creek/Victor school districts. In addition, health
screenings will be provided to the Head Start preschool program in
Cripple Creek. Partnering in the effort with local Rotarians are
the Pikes Peak Regional Medical Center Foundation, Teller County
Public Health, Pikes Peak Regional Hospital , Peak Vista Community
Health Centers, Cripple Creek/Victor and Woodland Park School
Districts, local physicians, school nurses and dentists.
Money was raised from the Pikes Peak Rotary Club, the local
Rotary District and Colorado Springs Clubs, a Rotary Club in
Vinukonda, India, and individual contributors.
