Cell-phone peek reportedly causes four-car accident
Parker police responded to a multicar crash involving four
vehicles at Stroh Road and South Parker Road at about 5:20 p.m.
July 29. Upon contacting the responsible driver, Dylan Zweygardt,
23, of Parker, officers detected an odor of alcohol.
Zweygardt said he drank one beer before the accident, which
reportedly occurred when he briefly looked at his cell phone and
looked up to see the car in front of him stopping. He swerved into
the right-turn only lane and struck a vehicle before “veering
across all three lanes of northbound traffic” and hitting two other
vehicles driving southbound, the police reports says.
No one was injured. When Zweygardt was performing roadside
sobriety maneuvers, he “inexplicably held his right index finger to
his nose,” the officer reported. He was arrested for suspicion of
drunken driving and cited for careless driving.
Builder reports irate neighbor about weeds in open space
An officer was dispatched to the 20000 block of Crooked Pine
Circle around 11:50 a.m. July 30 on a report of harassment. A
project manager with Toll Brothers Builders told dispatchers that
an irate woman threatened to burn a parcel of open space adjacent
to her parent’s property if the weeds were not removed. The woman
reportedly also threatened to burn down the company’s mobile
trailer while yelling obscenities.
The caller said he wanted the incident documented in case there
was any property damage in the future. He said if the woman
continues to harass his staff, he will get a restraining order and
assist with prosecution.
The woman told officers the only thing she said was “their weeds
on the open space may catch fire.” She was warned about making more
phone calls to Toll Brothers, but was not cited.
No charges pressed against pesky two-time trespasser
Police responded to 11117 Dransfeldt Road about 7 p.m. July 30
on a report of trespassing. The reporting party, who manages a
property with a vacant farmhouse southeast of Twenty Mile Road and
East Mainstreet, spotted a man two weeks earlier driving on the
land without permission. The man called again July 30 because the
suspect had returned to the house.
The officer contacted a man on the south side of the farmhouse
matching the description provided by the caller. John Stanfield,
52, of Covia, Calif., was cited for trespassing.
The property owner declined to press criminal charges; Stanfield
promised not to return.
Suspect without license causes head-on accident
Parker police were called to a vehicle accident caused by a
suspected drunken driver around 8:40 p.m. July 30. Witnesses said a
white Subaru Outback was traveling north in the southbound lanes of
Jordan Road near E-470 and swerved around four or five cars before
hitting a sport utility vehicle head on.
A 3-year-old boy riding in the SUV was not injured. The Subaru
continued traveling northbound, driving over the raised center
median beneath E-470 and striking a sign. It then drove onto the
sidewalk, through the grass and over a dirt mound before coming to
rest in a ditch near Storquest. The driver, Klaus Smith, 64, of
Parker, was taken to Parker Adventist Hospital for possible
injuries.
Smith later told police he had four drinks at Buffalo Boyd’s
Saloon and Restaurant before the crash; he believed he had been hit
from behind and pushed into the field where his car came to rest.
He could not perform sobriety maneuvers because of his condition
and refused to submit to a chemical test.
The officer discovered that Smith’s driver’s license was revoked
because of a prior alcohol offense. He was charged with reckless
endangerment, reckless driving, driving under the influence,
driving with a revoked license, leaving the scene of an injury
accident and failing to notify police of an accident.
