Dale needs a better grasp of facts on politics

I, like many Americans in my generation, look to the Internet to
obtain my daily news fix. My husband, on the other hand, reads the
local paper, and was nice enough to share a column written by Curt
Dale July 25, 2008, “Obama will be known as the ‘Shutdown Kid.’
”

This particular article, I am sure, surprised and may have even
offended many of your readers. I read it three times just to be
sure I was reading the information correctly.

I understand that Mr. Dale has some concern regarding the
Democratic convention, yet road closures must be done regardless of
the venue to maintain security, not only for Sen. Barack Obama but
also the delegates and other dignitaries.

All of Colorado knew this when the DNC announced Denver as the
convention location in 2007.

This also will not be the first time major roads have been
closed. I believe a few months ago President Bush came to town,
closing E-470 and other roads, and as we all know, if you are
coming from DTC, you have to go over or on E-470 to get into
Parker.

This, of course, meant many of us sat in traffic watching the
president go by as our children sat outside of schools waiting to
be picked up. This is part of security for the president. Obama
deserves this security as well.

Now, onto the more important content in this column. I believe
Sen. John McCain also voted against offshore drilling a few years
ago. Saving our resources for our children should be a priority. We
have to look to the future, wind solar, and natural gas to
survive.

Obama is not trying to raise gas prices for the average
American, he is only trying to help give us a push in the direction
in which this country needs to be heading to have a future and
compete on a world market.

McCain also took a trip overseas and, yes the press did sit that
trip out. McCain, having taken federal money for his campaign, did
not invite the press to join him because he could not afford to
have a large crew with him.

Obama, on the other hand, did invite the press, took them on his
plane, making himself the center of news. For he was not the one
attending small town hall meetings that week, Obama was making
picture perfect moments helping America’s image and doing it as a
senator, for there can “only be one president of America” at a
time.

Mr. Dale has a right to his opinion, he also has the right to
have it printed. My only concern in this article was the lack of
fact behind it. It was as though it was a “swift boat” ad on TV
being promoted by the Parker Chronicle, making it seem as though it
was fact.

Mr. Dale should spend some time watching those news
organizations that he spent time belittling in his article to
obtain a better grasp of the facts of American politics.
