Dear Readers:
Starting this week, we are changing the way we come into your homes.
Back in 2005, when the Arvada Sentinel became the Arvada Press, the paper became a free publication distributed to almost every household by youth carriers. The practice worked well, and we had the opportunity to work with almost 220 wonderful young citizens per week.
Unfortunately, it was also a very expensive practice.
This week, the Arvada Press will be delivered to your driveway by adult carriers, rather than to your doorstep by youth carriers.
We realize that our decision is not popular with the families who worked with us. We realize the sacrifice these people made to deliver the paper in all types of elements and conditions.
But we also realize that sometimes, unpopular decisions are necessary for the continuation of an organization.
That said, the Arvada Press is not in danger of closing shop. However, we have, like most businesses in today’s economic climate, had to tighten our belts. As newsprint, employee and transportation costs continue to climb, we found ourselves in the unenviable position of making difficult decisions. The move away from our youth carriers was by far the most difficult.
Our hope is that you will continue to read and use the Arvada Press, and understand why the change was necessary. We also hope you will continue to voice your opinions and support your only true local news source of information for Arvada.
If you have questions regarding our decision, please contact me via e-mail at ScottP@MileHighNews.com.
Sincerely yours,
Scott Perriman
