While a husband and wife were planning a birthday party for their child, the husband looked over the list of invitees and noticed there were names he did not recognize on the list. According to his wife he became enraged with jealousy and attacked her, ripping off her tank top, attempting to strangle her with the straps of the garment. When the woman was able to break free, the man then strangled her with his hands for three different lengths of time. The woman escaped the residence down the fire escape, where the man met her, telling her to get into the couple’s car, in which he threatened her with a knife. She was able to get out of the vehicle and flag-down an officer patrolling near the area. At the time of the report the police had not located the man. Police said both the knife and tank top used in the altercation were booked into evidence.

Mean text message becomes a police matter

July 3, 2008, 11:29 a.m., 8000 block W. Floyd Ave.

A woman called police because she was being harassed by her friend’s boyfriend through text messaging. According to the woman who phoned police, the man had been in an altercation with her friend, but her friend did not want to notify officers about the disturbance. Shortly afterward the woman who called police began receiving messages on her cell phone from the man telling her to “stay out of people’s lives” and that he “didn’t care if she called the police” concerning the couple’s fight. At this point the woman notified the police about the messaging. The dispatcher advised her not to text the man back. Police said the man did not text the woman again following the police contact.
