A little more than a year ago, Colorado Community Newspapers
launched a new design for its newspapers. That’s what you saw on
the outside.

What was happening on the inside was a major organizational
change to our way of building newspapers.

Editors had once “built” each page of the newspapers themselves.
Now, the layout work is done by a team of graphic designers,
freeing editors up to focus more on content. The ultimate goal was
to deliver better content to readers in a way that is more
attractive and easier to follow.

There is a lot of work that goes into thinking out the design of
a newspaper. It’s much more than picking fonts and point sizes.
It’s a process of deciding how best to present information to
you.

The evolution of the newspaper reader has put the pressure on us
to make information easier for customers to find during a quick
scan of the newspaper.

Look at a newspaper from today versus one from 10 years ago.
There are more small blocks of text today that let you digest
information in bite-sized chunks. If you’re reading a promo about
an event, the basic information that you need to attend – the date,
cost, time – should leap out at you as noticeably as the
headline.

Now that we’re a year into this emphasis on design and a new way
of doing things, we want to know how you think we’re
doing.

You’ve had time to live with our new design and use it week in
and week out. We want to know how it’s working for you.

Do our papers have a look that appeals to you? Can you scan our
papers and find enough information to keep you interested? How
often does something you didn’t think you’d be interested in catch
your eye and prompt you to read?

These are some of the questions we’d like feedback on. E-mail
your thoughts to us at design@ccnewspapers.com.

Thanks for reading.
