About 2 p.m. Feb. 22, light rail trains once again began running
to the County Line and Lincoln stations on the Southeast Corridor
Light Rail Line.
Service to the two stations was interrupted about 2:30 a.m. Feb
20, when one of the utility lines snapped that provides electricity
to the light rail trains. Regional Transportation District crews
worked around the clock to run new lines in order to restore
service to the two southern most stations on the Southeast
Corridor.
RTD also quickly set up a shuttle bus system to take riders who
came to the County Line and Lincoln stations to the Dry Creek
station, where they could catch the light rail train to downtown
Denver. Estimates are the shuttle bus added 10 to 15 minutes to the
riders commute.
The outage apparently happened when an insulator on a power pole
broke, causing the power line to snap. The safety equipment
monitoring the power system immediately shut down power to the area
south of the line break. That means trains no longer served the
Lincoln and County Line stations.
