World-renowned ice sculptors took to the streets of Cripple
Creek for the first of two weekends beginning Feb. 8. Using
chainsaws and assorted tools, they created a larger-than-life
winter scene of a mountain setting with a steam locomotive driving
out of a tunnel, weighing more than 30,000 pounds. The event ends
this weekend, with a beer garden and a 9-foot ice bar with a liquor
luge, live entertainment, and a downhill gravity race Feb. 16.
However, after all the carving is done, the ice sculptures can be
viewed daily through Feb. 18.
