Whether it’s shoulder pads for an aspiring linebacker, a new
leather glove for a pitcher or headgear for a menacing wrestler,
Locker Room Sports has the necessary apparel for athletes of all
shapes and sizes.
Locker Room Sports, southeast of South Parker Road and Pine
Lane, is quickly becoming the leading provider of sporting goods in
Parker.
Since opening in July, hundreds of adults and children have
realized the benefits of shopping at the independently owned
shop.
Tera Velarde, who owns Locker Room Sports with her husband,
Brian, and Mike Vavra, Sr., has lived in Parker for four years and
recognized a need for a sports equipment store.
The shop has already outfitted a Parker Hawks baseball team and
is looking forward to playing a major role in the future of youth
sports leagues in town, Velarde said.
Locker Room Sports carries only new sports equipment from some
of the largest manufacturers, including Adidas, Reebok and
Mizuno.
Although the store’s inventory changes based on the season, it
has equipment for baseball, football, basketball, soccer, wrestling
and volleyball among others in a given year.
Locker Room Sports has everything a team might need, Velarde
said, adding larger stores in Parker don’t do team sales.
The store pays critical attention to each customer’s needs and
can special order any apparel it does not have in stock. Store
manager Mike Vavra, Jr., is extremely knowledgeable about sports
and can find the right fit for any athlete, said Velarde, a former
softball, basketball and volleyball player.
“He really takes the time for one-on-one interaction. He takes
the time to explain it to them if they don’t understand,” she
said.
Locker Room Sports, 6218 E. Pine Lane, is open from 11 a.m. to 7
p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. For
