Wrong checks written on account
Oct. 19 – A 54-year-old woman reported checks she had not
written were being used on her bank account. After retrieving
copies of the checks, she found one was written for $75 to a
restaurant in Colorado Springs and another was written for $500 to
an individual whose residence was traced to California. Both checks
had a man’s name printed on them. The man’s address is listed in
Golden. The case was forwarded to investigations for
followup.
Meth found in car
Oct. 29 – Sheriff’s deputies traveling on North Elbert Road
stopped a vehicle after they observed the driver making a turn
without using the turn signal. Upon contacting the driver, the
31-year-old man confirmed he was driving without a valid driver’s
license and his license was suspended for excessive traffic
tickets. A check confirmed the vehicle was registered under his
name and the license plates had expired in 2001. Dispatch informed
deputies the driver was wanted on an active felony arrest warrant
out of Otero County. The man was arrested and deputies conducted a
search of his vehicle. Deputies found a Baggie containing a
substance suspected to be methamphetamine in the seam of the seat
near the driver’s side of the vehicle. The substance tested
positive for meth in a field test and the man was charged with
unlawful possession of schedule II controlled substance. After
acknowledging his Miranda rights, the man claimed ownership of the
vehicle but not of the methamphetamine. The report was forwarded to
investigations for review.
H2O pump missing
Nov. 1 – A deputy was dispatched to the 5800 block of County
Road 154 on a report of stolen property from a construction site.
The reporting party said a water pump used to pump water out of
ponds or large areas of standing water was missing from near the
main entrance to the new subdivision. The pump is valued at $1,000.
No suspects were named.
Incorrect creditstatement?
Nov. 4 – An 80-year-old woman reported she received a statement
from a department store with a credit card account number one digit
off from her account at the store. The statement showed purchases
on Sept. 21 totaling $588.21 from stores in Parker and Lone Tree.
The department store sent her copies of the receipts for the
questioned purchases and the signatures from the receipts
reportedly do not match her signature. She told officers she
believes the department store issued her a new card, which was
mailed to her and subsequently stolen from her mailbox. She
cancelled the new account and could not provide the sheriff’s
office with the names of any suspects.
