The Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce held the third in a series of
business education seminars Thursday, Oct. 12. The topic was
“Gaining Management Control.” from a “hands-on” perspective and the
seminar introduced Object Management Strategies, a “WorkWare”
definition, control and visibility methodology where:

* Goals, objectives and expectations of priorities were
identified.

* Requirements and specifications of the stated goals were
defined.

* A plan is established with costs and a timeline with a
specific beginning and end.

* A periodic control and report function is established to
determine the status of each priority and its success or obstacles
encountered.

A set of performance management processes were introduced which
drive the methodology to:

* Identify and structure priorities – where is time spent and
its importance

* Get commitments in writing – clearly and briefly define
expectations

* Provide work definition – accountable to an identifiable
function.

* Establish control points, with the simplicity of using
“stick-on’s” to track “to do’s,” status, critical incidents,
management direction, plan progress, specification or objective
changes. Responsibility is assigned so the management and delivery
of each priority is specific to an accountable person.

* Record work occurrences – to capture work and personal
transactions for each priority that offers opportunity for future
analysis, control and improvement.

* Gain performance visibility – with a “hard copy” portfolio for
each priority that provides access by managers and
participants.

Finishing the presentation, a how-to organize and update a
personalized “file box system” for personalized use. This system
assists in the prioritization of work flow that is documented and
provides the ability to fulfill commitments and provide maximum
productivity.

Busy Bee Janitorial Services (Debbie Hall – owner) won a
containerized portable system kit for tracking and organizing
priorities. She said the program will help her “get a handle on all
the day-to-day pressures of managing” the expanding
business.
