Lewis-Palmer High School student Molly Browne has been selected
to be a member of the crew for the national premiere production of
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” School Edition. Browne, who lives in
Monument, is one of 48 students from 21 states picked for the
first-ever show, which will be presented by Music Theatre
International and the Educational Theatre Association at the 2007
International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Neb.
Browne is one of four students from Colorado who were selected
to be part of the premiere show, and she is the only student
representing the Colorado Springs area. The cast and crew will
present the show for over 2,500 students, teachers and school
administrators next June. They will be meeting in Kenosha, Wis. for
three intensive rehearsal periods in March, May and June 2007. In
addition, the cast’s performance will be recorded and serve as the
official guide vocal CD for
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” School Edition, which will be made
available to thousands of schools and educational theater groups
nationwide.
Browne is a member of Troupe 5450 of The International Thespian
Society, the world’s largest honor society for high school theater
arts students, through Lewis-Palmer High School.
The District 38 Kids Health Fair held Saturday, Sept. 9, brought
about 450 parents and kids to Grace Best Elementary school. The
event was advertised through school newsletters.
Three years ago, event chairwoman Barbara Huey came up with the
idea of a Health and Safety Fair and Fitness Day for the students
at Grace Best. She and the P.E. teacher at the time decided to
combine the Health and Safety Fair, a fitness course and a bike
rally with Jump Rope for Heart.
This year’s event included representation from the Vitamin
Cottage, the Colorado Sports Center, YMCA, dentist Dr. Hughes, the
Monument Police Department, Tri-Lakes/Monument Fire Rescue
Authority, Jump Rope for Heart and several others. Memorial
Hospital also conducted a blood drive.
