Arapahoe Community College has created a new First Generation
scholarship to pay for up to two years of tuition for eligible
students. First generation students are students whose parents do
not have bachelor’s degrees. To be eligible for the scholarship,
students must be Colorado residents eligible for in-state tuition
and the College Opportunity Fund (COF); be high school graduates or
GED recipients with a minimum 2.25 cumulative grade point average;
be first-time ACC students; provide a letter of recommendation;
meet ACC financial aid requirements; and meet minimum standardized
test scores. For more information about ACC’s First Generation
Scholarships or to request a copy of the scholarship application,
call Howard Fukaye at 303-797-5622 or James Shettleworth at
303-797-5653.

Mountain Vista High School seniors Sarah Foote and David Ashby
have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship
Program.

Saddle Ranch Elementary School’s Fred Rundle, currently the
assistant principal, will take over as principal starting in July.
He will be taking over for Marie Unger, who has accepted a position
as a planning principal for a new school being built in the
area.

Kathy Landry has been named the new director of the Rock Canyon
feeder area. She is currently working for the district as a
regional director for Instructional Support Services. She will
replace Annette Fante, who has been named acting Assistant
Superintendent of Learning Services.

Highlands Ranch High School Orchestra Boosters will hold a
Mother’s Day plant sale noon-5 p.m., May 11 and 12, at the school’s
main entrance. They will be selling 16-inch color bowls, 12-inch
French gardens and 10-inch hanging geraniums, and all proceeds will
benefit the HRHS orchestra.

Scott Graham, a senior at Mountain Vista High School, was
recently selected for membership to the National Society of High
School Scholars. Membership in the society, which was founded by
Claes Nobel of the Nobel Prize family, recognizes students who have
excelled academically.

Mountain Vista High School senior Sandra Deibel has received two
scholarships from Xavier University. Sandra received the Buschman
Award, which is an award for academic achievement given to incoming
freshmen, and the Honor scholarship.

Highlands Ranch High School student Caitlin Lopez has been named
an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy.
Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average and be
nominated by a sponsor in order to be accepted.

Several Highlands Ranch schools competed in the regional
Destination Imagination competition on March 25. The following
teams performed well enough to move on to state: Saddle Ranch
Elementary, Fox Creek Elementary, Coyote Creek Elementary/Ranch
View Middle School and Mountain Ridge Middle School.
