Teacher grants available
Nomination forms are available at all Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB locations for the company’s 11th Annual Teacher of the Year program, which awards $1,000 grants to deserving educators.
Many winners will be surprised with a special ceremony at their school in honor of National Teacher’s Day on Tuesday, May 9. State winners will be selected and announced in the fall, and one national winner will be announced before the end of the year.
Nominations for Super Hero Teachers sought
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a … middle school teacher.
Students are invited to nominate middle school teachers for the Super Hero Teacher of the Year award, sponsored by local OfficeMax stores. Students in 6th to 8th grade must write a 200-word essay describing their teacher.
If the essay is chosen, the student and teacher will appear in a Marvel comic book, and the school will earn $6,000 for classroom supplies.
Other cash prizes are also available for runners-up. For an entry form and more information, visit www.officemax.com.
Colorado Academy wins reading award
Colorado Academy, a private, nonprofit, independent college-preparatory school south of Lakewood, earned Colorado’s Exemplary Reading Award.
Sponsored by the International Reading Association, the award recognizes reading and language arts programs at all grade levels. All public, private, and parochial schools are eligible. This is the first time any member of the Association of Colorado Independent Schools has won the award.
