To the editor:

Please vote yes on ballot question 5-E.

I urge the residents of the Tri-Lakes Fire Protection District
to vote yes on ballot question 5-E, waiver of term limits. There
are two reasons why we should exempt the members of our district’s
board of directors from being term limited. First, in small
districts, where there is no pay or political incentive, it is
often difficult to find candidates willing to commit the time and
energy required to serve their community for four years; while some
good people who have already made this commitment and served well
and faithfully might like to continue but cannot because of the two
elected term limit imposed by Colorado law. Second, during the past
four years, the Board of Directors of the Tri-Lakes Fire Protection
District has made enormous strides in unifying and improving fire
protection and emergency medical service for district residents,
but a great deal of work remains to be done. I believe district
residents would be well served by allowing these dedicated people
to run for election again, and if elected, complete the work they
have started.

P.S. I am not presently term-limited, so this is not a personal
issue.
