Monument Cadette Girl Scout Troop 493
Students at Antelope Trails Elementary School raised $7,300 for
hurricane Katrina victims. A car wash held last Saturday at the
school raised $2,500. The additional money was collected through a
student-initiated bake sale and fundraising campaign. All money
will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The
effort was spearheaded, organized and directed by the fifth-grade
classes, although the entire school and staff participated in the
effort.
Monument Cadette Girl Scout Troop 493 achieved their Silver
Award on Aug. 13. They earned the award, one of the top honors in
Girl Scouting, by planning, funding and hosting a “Celebration of
Life” event for the local charity, Compassion for Kids (CFK). CFK
works with local children undergoing treatment for cancer. It
strives to enhance the quality of life for these children and their
families. The even included a cookout, games, gifts, entertainment
and ballon sculptures by Rolo the Clown.
