Mr. and Mrs. Edward James Smith of Monument are pleased to
announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Kathleen, to Alain
Portavoce, son of Jacques and Marie-Joseph Portavoce of
Lancon-de-Provence, France.
Megan is a 1997 graduate of Lewis-Palmer High School. She
attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated in 2001 with a
degree in electrical engineering. In 2003, she earned a master of
science degree, also in electrical engineering, from the University
of Virginia.
Alain holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of the
Mediterranean and works for the National Center for Scientific
Research in Marseille, France.
The couple met at the University of Virginia while working on
the same research team.
A May 2006 wedding is planned in Provence.
