Shaunna Louise McLaughlin of Monument graduated magna cum laude
from Seattle Pacific University earlier this month with a bachelor
of arts degree in psychology. She was also named to Alpha Kappa
Sigma, an honor society sponsored by the Free Methodist Church.
Founded in 1891, Seattle Pacific is a fully-accredited Christian
university offering a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate
academic program to 3,900 students.
Colorado Springs and Monument incoming sophomores competed at
the National Hispanic Institute’s Young Leaders Conference (YLC) at
Adams State College in Alamosa from July 7-10. The team emerged
with a trophy for second runner-up. Six of the team members reached
the “All Star Team” status and two team members earned the
privilege to attend the National YLC this October in Texas.
Students from across Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas
converged at Adams State College to participate in the National
Hispanic Institute’s Young Leaders Conference (YLC). The students
participated in public speaking competitions in five areas: mock
trial, extemporaneous speaking, cross-examination, oratory and
adjudication.
The Colorado Springs team included students from Lewis-Palmer,
Cheyenne Mountain, Harrison, Coronado, Mesa Ridge, Fountain-Fort
Carson and Widefield high schools.
