Amid shattered windows and collapsed walls, Chris Karwin, a
probationary member of the Tri-Lakes Fire Protection District
(TLFPD), takes an ax to the roof of the former Hope Montessori
Academy building in Woodmoor, as Captain Curtis Kauffman offers
advice. The TLFPD used the abandoned building, which was demolished
Aug. 29., for training purposes.
Children gathered at the steps of their new school house to
watch.
“This is how our kids learn,” Norman Deeba, president of Hope
Montessori said. “We try to take real-life situations and use them
as learning tools.”
