Anyone who has tried raising a child knows the difficulties and
joys that come when preschool-age approaches.  Through the trials
and errors of parenting, it is often beneficial to have support
from others in a similar situation.  This is the logic behind the
Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPs), a group that has been meeting at
the Fellowship Hall in Kiowa for close to seven years.

The group is described as a nondenominational, nonprofit
Christian organization for mothers of children between birth and
six years old.

There are about 10 members actively involved with the group –
most coming from Elizabeth and Kiowa.  The bimonthly meetings,
consist of group discussions, a guest speaker, breakfast and play
time for kids downstairs.  Discussions and speaker topics include
cooking, budget, health, finance, gardening, school options, books
and behavioral problems and solutions.

The group even participates in several activities or field trips
throughout the year.  Just this year participants visited a pool in
Parker, Castle Wood Canyon, Focus on the Family and now plan to see
new born goats on a Kiowa farm.

In addition to the field trips, the group also gathers together
for several fund-raising activities.  Together, they have garage
sales, bake sales, and, to the thrill of many local children, they
organize the yearly Easter Egg Hunt – where they sell baked
goods.  These mothers can do wonders with cupcakes.  They also have
Christmas parties and brunches throughout the year.

The busy agenda of the MOPs becomes all the more satisfying
because it’s spent with all the friends made in this close-knit
group.

Any mother of a preschooler who is interested in joining this
group is invited to come to a meeting or call Jaclyn Lucas at
303-648-0085.

Meetings are the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m.
in the Fellowship Hall in Kiowa.  Due to the upcoming Labor Day,
the next meeting will be Sept. 20.  There is no cost to join, but a
$5 donation is requested to pay for childcare.

Come and join the fun of MOPs.
