after this Saturday’s multiple community garage sales in
Elizabeth and Elbert.
Rent a U-Haul, spray out the bed of the pick-up, put the back
seat of the hatch-back down and start your engines, please. The
race is on this Saturday in Elizabeth and Elbert to shop til you
drop. Both communities have scheduled all-day garage sales for
local yocals and suburban garage sale fanatics.
Elizabeth
With the help of Elizabeth area merchants and sponsors, the
Elizabeth Area Chamber of Commerce will welcome garage sale
enthusiasts from surrounding communities with a day of yard sale
shopping heaven.
Volunteers will be placed along major intersections of the
highway in the Elizabeth area to greet visitors with maps that will
lead shoppers to individual garage sales throughout the area. The
maps will provide the locations of yard and garage sales in the
Elizabeth area and surrounding neighborhoods.
At no cost to residents, the chamber collected addresses for
yard sale shoppers to enjoy innumerable sales throughout the
community. Sales will be scattered throughout town and beyond, with
signs posted along the highway to direct visitors off the beaten
path to yard sales outside of Elizabeth proper.
Other sales locations include a flea market in the parking lot
of Elizabeth’s Frontier High School and the parking lot at the fire
station of the Elizabeth Fire Protection District on Colo. 86. CASA
will also host an event at the Casey Jones Pavilion on the east
side of town.
As an added bonus, local merchants will welcome visitors with
sidewalk sales and store discounts throughout the day. And when
it’s time for a lunchtime meal or just an energy break, choose from
among the town’s numerous restaurants for specials to revive you
for the next round of shopping.
The chamber organized the event to promote the area and show its
support to the community.
Elbert
Not to be outdone, the Elbert Woman’s Club is at it again. It
will sponsor another fund-raiser for the restoration of the Russell
Gates Mercantile building in Elbert this Saturday. From 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. Elbert residents will have a garage sale at the historic
building and in their yards. The Elbert Woman’s Club kitchen divas
will serve lunch at the mercantile and, as always, the proceeds
will go to the restoration fund.
Get a good night’s sleep Friday night and be ready for more than
you can bargain for at these local garage sales Aug. 13.
