Jeffco officials hold open house

Norma’s day of honor

State Sen. Norma Anderson, R-Lakewood, was honored at Monday’s Lakewood City Council meeting for her service to the city. Anderson was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 1986 where she served until she was elected to the Colorado Senate in 1998, where she will serve until 2006. The council declared Nov. 8, 2004, as Norma Anderson Day.

Belmar expands

Holiday visitors to Belmar will have more holiday shopping and dining options with stores and restaurants scheduled to open in November and December. New restaurants include P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Elephant Bar Restaurant, The Oven, Frisco’s Deli and Market and the Press Coffee Company. New stores include Sur La Table, a cooking tools store; American Apparel offers casual wear, Claire’s, a fashion accessory store; Bouquets, a flower shop and wedding décor specialist; and Ricochet, a boutique.

Bring an Aussie home

The Lakewood Sister Cities program is hosting several information meetings this month for Jefferson County high school students interested in the Australian student exchange program. Students can spend six months attending school in Sutherland Shire, Australia, a suburb of Sydney. As an exchange program, each student is paired with a Sutherland Shire student. Selections are made in April. The program accommodates between 10 and 15 students each year. The meetings are scheduled as follows:

• At 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15 at the Consolidated Mutual Building, 12711 W. 27th Ave.

• At 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at Columbine Library, 7706 W. Bowles Ave.

• At 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, Golden Library, 1019 10th St.

• At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, Belmar Library, 555 S. Allison Parkway.
