Those popular home-remodeling television shows have prompted a
number of do-it-yourselfers to take on projects that prove to be
too much to handle. That’s where the experts at UBuildIt come
in.

UBuildIt is a national chain of construction consultants who can
help with any project from bathroom remodeling to developing
building plans for your dream home.

Home-building experts combined with UBuildIt’s preferred vendor
status among experienced subcontractors could lead to a significant
increase in the value of your home, claims the company.

“People used to do it with a contractor or by themselves. This
is somewhere in between. It’s kind of a new niche that’s sweeping
the country,” said Ron Catterson, owner of UBuildIt, 12543 S.
Parker Road in the Pine Lane Shopping Center in Parker.

He said UBuildIt is a “natural outgrowth” of the popular
home-remodeling shows on cable networks such as Home and Garden
Television. More people have been inspired to take on projects
themselves and Catterson recognized that consumers need help and
guidance on their self-managed building projects.

“There are a lot of people who don’t have the connections. One
of the biggest things we offer is connections with reliable
subcontractors and suppliers,” Catterson said.

He and senior consultant Rick Bell worked for a combined 35
years as subcontractors before venturing into consulting. Formerly
based in Littleton, the business was moved to Parker because
Catterson said it has more of the clientele UBuildIt is looking
for.

Those consumers, he said, are self-starters who are motivated to
get the things they want for their home. He also said there is more
land to work with in the Parker area.

Helping clients find the right piece of land is an additional
perk to UBuildIt’s repertoire. The experts will look at the
property review, develop details in the building plans, create a
final budget and submit a materials list to a supplier who will get
the goods at a lower price.

Catterson said by being able to get materials at builder’s cost,
clients typically save as much money in supplies as it costs for
UBuildIt’s services. The big plus is the buyer gets the specific
results they desire and added home equity. Catterson said UBuildIt
customers often see an equity gain of between 15 and 30
percent.

UBuildIt consultants will help with permitting and management
tools, including drawing out a construction schedule and making
on-site visits throughout the process, Catterson said.

“We walk them through the project. A majority of people don’t
have construction experience,” the owner said. “They just need to
know how to make daily decisions, and that’s why we’re
here.”

The experts will give advice on the feasibility of locations for
essential components like driveways and utilities. Catterson said
they search for any “red flags” in the layout. And as far as
creative design, he said UBuildIt is pretty flexible and will work
with whatever the customer can dream up.
