In my opinion, the Douglas County Republican Executive Committee
improperly interfered in the political process with an
unprecedented commitment to spend up to $15,000 on behalf of only
one of the three Republican candidates for county commissioner in
District 2.
Mr. Scheffel, the party chairman, and party vice chair Mr.
Folkestad must be held accountable for this disregard of the
founding principles of the Republican Party and our
Republic.
It is up to the Republican voters of Douglas County to decide
which candidate would best represent their interests. I have met
all three candidates and believe each would capably and diligently
represent the residents of Douglas County. The local GOP executive
committee would best serve Douglas County Republicans by ensuring a
level playing field so the principles of government “of the people,
by the people, for the people” are adhered to both in fact and in
spirit.
The Douglas County Republican Executive Committee should
immediately correct the unfairness of its decision by authorizing
equal financial support for all three candidates. If the executive
committee is unwilling to take corrective action it is high time
for all Republicans in Douglas County to demand changes in the
executive committee.
